Brazilian Butt Lift

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Duluth, GA

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat from areas of the body such as the abdomen or flanks and places it in the buttock region. After using liposuction to remove the fat, it is then prepared and reinjected into the buttocks to enhance its contour. In the year 2020, Brazilian Butt Lifts had an average satisfaction rating of 97%, (1) providing patients from all around the country with a larger, more shapely behind.

All About Brazilian Butt Lifts

Before the technique made its way to the United States, the BBL was popularized in Brazil, hence its name. Prior to this, surgeons routinely performed buttock augmentation using silicone implants. This resulted in complications like rupture, migration, and unnatural-looking outcomes in some patients. By using a patient’s own tissue instead, the BBL allows for more natural-looking results without the risks associated with silicone implants.

Two-In-One Procedure

Removing fat cells permanently and reintroducing them somewhere else allows for optimal body contouring. By slimming areas that often collect stubborn fat, and accentuating an area in need of more volume, the Brazilian Butt Lift works in two ways to create the highly desired hourglass figure that cannot always be achieved by diet and exercise alone.

How Does Fat Transfer Work?

Dr. Davoudi uses liposuction to remove the donor fat needed for a BBL. This process involves a long, hollow needle called a cannula that breaks up fat and removes it with suction. Typically involving a tumescent solution that consists mostly of saline, liposuction allows fat cells to be safely broken apart for removal without completely destroying them. The fat is typically taken from the:

  • Lower Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Arms
  • Flanks
  • Back

After the fat is removed, Dr. Davoudi separates it in a process called centrifugation. A machine spins the fat at a very high rate to isolate the healthy fat cells from the surrounding tissues and blood. He then prepares the fat cells and reinjects them into the buttock region to accentuate its shape. Using a “fanning” method wherein the fat is slowly injected into the recipient area little by little, Dr. Davoudi ensures that the fat cells will have the most healthy environment and the best chance for survival. A high percentage of reinjected fat cells then embrace their new home and add volume and structure to the butt to augment its overall shape permanently. The procedure is safe and effective without the use of silicone implants or dermal fillers. (2)

Benefits of a BBL

The Brazilian Butt Lift provides a multitude of benefits including:

  • Improved buttock volume
  • More shapely contour
  • Decreased cellulite
  • Permanently removes fat
  • Creates a buttock lift
  • Enhanced “hourglass-like” curves
  • Better waist-to-hip ratio
  • Increased body confidence
  • Highly customizable
  • Easily combined with other procedures such as those in a Mommy Makeover

Candidates for a BBL

Candidates for fat transfer to the buttocks may have unwanted excess fat in the abdomen, flanks and posterior flank areas (also known as “love handles”) and desire a larger and more shapely behind. They must also have enough fat for safe removal and reinjection. It is important to also have realistic expectations about the procedure and what it can do for you.

A BBL procedure is unsuitable for those with any serious underlying conditions that may impact their healing. Liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, so patients must be at a stable weight to undergo the surgery safely.

Personal Consultation with Dr. Davoudi

We invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Davoudi at our Atlanta location. During your visit, you will meet with him for a physical examination to determine what results he can realistically achieve during your Brazilian butt lift procedure. He will take time to examine possible donor areas, as well as note the current size and shape of your buttocks. At this time, you will have the opportunity to address any questions you may have about the surgery, recovery, and results. Upon completion, our staff will provide a pricing quotation and select a surgery date most convenient to you.

Preparation

Preparing for a BBL involves taking the necessary steps to ensure you have a successful surgery and recovery. It includes avoiding the following:

  • NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and aspirin
  • Tobacco and nicotine products
  • Alcohol
  • Herbal supplements like fish oil and vitamin E

Before surgery, please prepare your home for recovery. This will include getting a specially shaped pillow to support your buttocks. Cook and store easy-to-heat meals and ensure someone can drive you to and from your surgery. They may also need to stay with you the following nights to make sure your initial healing goes well. Pick up any prescriptions before your surgery date.

BBL Procedure

A fat transfer is considered major surgery and is performed under general anesthesia. Once you are properly prepared and sedated, Dr. Davoudi administers a tumescent solution to the donor area. This solution ensures that the fat is easier to remove manually with a cannula. After using liposuction to remove the fat, he separates the viable fat cells using a centrifuge and prepares them for reinjection. If the patient seeks augmentation in other areas, this can often be done at the same time. The entire process is done with meticulous care and attention, ensuring the patient gets the desired results.

Recovery

All BBL patients must refrain from sitting on their buttocks for three weeks. You will need a special BBL pillow which will enable you to sit down without putting pressure on your buttock region. Keeping your body weight off your treatment site allows the harvested fat to adapt to its new location. Once the fat has connected with sufficient blood supply, you will be able to sit again without the risk of destroying the newly-placed cells.

During the recovery period, you must also refrain from smoking and heavy exercise. You will leave your surgery in a special compression garment that will help contain the swelling in your liposuction areas and support your BBL in maintaining the beautiful shape Dr. Davoudi has created. Taking light walks and performing moderate activity, along with a healthy diet rich in protein, fiber, and vitamins, will aid in tissue healing.

Two weeks post-procedure, you will visit our office and meet with our nurse. She will check your incision sites as well as monitor your healing progress. You will start to notice your swelling and bruising begin to decrease and you will only be one week away from being able to sit and lay down again.

Results

Your final results depend both on the amount of fat harvested and injected as well as your natural frame. Dr. Davoudi artistically sculpts the buttock region to a shape, size, and projection that flatters your figure. Many of our patients are amazed to find their abdomen, waist, and butt have been transformed into beautiful, eye-catching curves.

The results of fat transfer to the buttocks are typically long-lasting. Since the fat cells are living, they are given the chance to continue to live in their new home, helping preserve your new contour. The procedure may also be repeated for maintenance and more dramatic contours.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

During your consultation with Dr. Davoudi, you may discuss combining both breast and tummy tuck procedures, as well as additional liposuction, with your BBL.

Breast Augmentation

To add volume and shape to the chest area, you may consider a breast augmentation with either silicone implants or fat transfer. During this surgery, Dr. Davoudi places an implant above or below the pectoral muscle to keep it in a natural place. This allows the breasts to increase in size and project a fuller profile. Although augmentation with fat transfer instead does not result in the most dramatic effects, it can still be easily combined with BBL since the donor fat is already being reinjected elsewhere.

Tummy Tuck

It is nearly impossible to tighten extremely loose skin without surgery, which leads many patients toward a tummy tuck procedure. Dr. Davoudi performs a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen to improve a patient’s waist contour and shape. This procedure is typically for patients who have undergone childbirth or significant weight loss but have not achieved the body they desire through diet and exercise alone. Dr. Davoudi addresses the skin and fat around the abdomen by removing them and pulling the remaining tissue downward, suturing it at the natural bikini line. This procedure is commonly combined with liposuction for the most effective results.
