What is a Mastopexy or Breast Lift? One of the biggest complaints women have about their bodies is the sag that naturally occurs in breast tissue as volume and elasticity is lost with age. Breasts can sag and lose their shape even more after breastfeeding, leaving many women with less confidence than they enjoyed in younger years. A breast lift surgery, technically known as the mastopexy, is designed to lift and reshape breasts so that they have a more youthful appearance.

The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and repositioning of the nipples. This requires general anesthesia, and the process can take up to four hours. For patient safety, all outpatient surgeries are completed in surgery centers attached to hospitals.

Before and After Photos

Ideal Candidate

If lifting your breasts to a more attractive position would improve your self image and boost your self confidence, contact our office to discuss your suitability to the surgery. Even if you have small breasts or experience minor sagging, you may qualify for modified forms of the surgery.

Expectations

You can expect mastopexy to deliver higher breasts with better shape which still feel and look natural. While these results may last for many years, they aren’t permanent. As you continue to age, gravity and the loss of elasticity will contribute to more sagging. You may also experience repositioning of your breasts if your weight fluctuates or you have another baby.

Consultation

Breast Lift Atlanta, GA

When you contact the Atlantic Center for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery regarding a breast lift, you will first schedule an initial consultation. Dr. Davoudi will examine and take pictures of your breasts in addition to performing 3D computer analysis. This will lead to an open discussion about how the surgery is performed, what risks you should consider, and what you may expect in your specific situation.

Dr. Davoudi will also discuss your goals and all surgical options and recommendations to help you reach those goals. He will answer all of your questions so that you can make an educated decision about having mastopexy.

If you decide to have the surgery, you will meet with Dr. Davoudi, the anesthesia team and the lab for a pre-op visit approximately two weeks prior to the surgery. You will receive instructions to prepare for the surgery and will overview your preoperative responsibilities.

FAQ

What Surgical Options Does Dr. R. Morgan Davoudi Offer?

The most common breast lift procedure involves making incisions in the following locations:

* Base of the breast (anchor shaped)
* Around the areolas
* Between the areola and the base of the breast

These incisions allow Dr. Davoudi to remove the excess skin identified during the initial consultation. They also define the intended relocation for the nipple. After the excess skin is removed, the areola and nipple are transitioned to a higher position and skin around the areola is taken down to reshape the breast.

Modifications of this procedure are used for patients with minimal sagging and smaller breasts. In most cases, these procedures require fewer incisions. For instance, the “doughnut mastopexy” requires incisions around the areola only. These incisions are circular and allow Dr. Davoudi to remove the excess skin in the shape of a doughnut.

What is the Cost of Surgery?

The cost of breast lift surgery depends on the extent of the surgery. Larger breasts with more excess tissue will naturally cost more than smaller breasts with minimal excess tissue. If you’re interested in the procedure, call our office to schedule a complimentary consultation. You may also wish to take advantage of our online consultations. We will discuss the exact cost of your surgery after the initial evaluation is completed.

What Risks are Associated with Surgery?

Scarring is a potential side effect of mastopexy, and the risk is higher if you want more aggressive reshaping efforts. Other risks include negative reactions to general anesthesia and infection at the incision points.

Can You Combine a Breast Lift with Other Procedures?

Some patients choose to combine mastopexy with mastopexy to increase breast volume.

What is the Typical Recovery Time after Surgery?

You should plan to take it easy for at least one week, possibly two, after you receive mastopexy in Atlanta, Georgia. You will need to wait three to four weeks before lifting heavy weights and a month before participating in strenuous exercise or sports. Since the surgery doesn’t impact your milk ducts or functioning of your nipples, you can continue breastfeeding after surgery.

You will experience bruising and swelling in the breasts for up to two days, and you may feel numb for up to six weeks. You will receive pain medication, though in most cases, the pain is not severe. It’s necessary to wear a gauze dressing topped by a surgical bra or elastic bandage during recovery. Two weeks after surgery, you will return to have the stitches removed. You may use skin moisturizer several times a day if your skin gets dry.
